Junghans Meister Handwind, On the Wrist

Back in June we wrote about this watch, and today I’m pleased to present our review of a week with the Junghans Meister Handwinding ref 027/3200.00, courtesy of Junghans USA.

In addition to that beautiful dial with subtle speckle texture, the back view is equal to the front:

That’s an ETA/Peseaux 7001, a classic hand winder of unusually compact dimensions. The workhorse ETA 2824 and 2892 are 25.6mm; this is 23.3. The 2824 is 4.6mm thick, the 2892 3.6, but the 7001 is even thinner at 2.5mm.

Stop and consider that a moment. That’s amazingly slender. Here’s a comparison shot of my 2892-based RGM 151P:

The RGM is my go-to dress watch, but the Junghans makes it feel oversized and clunky. Another angle:

Some numbers: The Junghans is a vanishing 35g including leather strap, measuring 37.5mm across by 7.8mm thick at the center of the domed Sicralan crystal. 49.2mm lug to lug.

This is easily the slimmest watch I’ve reviewed. It laughs at snug cuffs and would rock a tuxedo. A Calatrava for the rest of us.

The packaging is simple, uncluttered and functional, very much like the watch itself.

The watch has excellent case finish and detailing, complete with laser-engraved crown. This picture on the next page shows how well-polished the hands are – very nice for this price point… more »
