Jaeger-LeCoultre brings the essence of the Swiss Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux to a contemporary setting at The Dubai Mall.
Taking place this month from 6 to 17 October at The Dubai Mall, the exhibition will feature handcrafted timepieces presenting novelties, the new Geophysic, iconic Atmos, the Master Ultra Thin collection and Reverso collection (men and ladies)as well as an engraving demonstration. Offering educational insight into the realm of haute horology, the presentation will also provide visitors with the opportunity to immerse themselves within the intricacies of precision watchmaking. Watch aficionados will also be offered the opportunity to participate in a private engraving class with an artisan from the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre.
From the Renaissance onwards, horology required the contribution of skilled artisans in adorning
the metal of clock cabinets and watch cases. The steadily growing number of workmen involved in
decoration allowed for the creation of increasingly elaborate techniques. Originally taught by masters within workshops, they subsequently became part of the curriculum of artistic schools. This art as applied to horology, and particularly to watches, was consistently cultivated in Switzerland.
The master-craftsmen displayed a wealth of dexterity in practicing certain decorative processes, including engraving. In tune with the styles demanded by the era, such engravings were abundant and extremely expressive. Figurative ornamentation was then abandoned in favour of more geometrical, understated and elegant forms. Nonetheless, this stricter type of ornamentation was not synonymous with strict efficiency and economy, and the skilled and dedicated artisans were as determined as ever in their quest for perfection.
The case of the legendary Reverso swivel watch forms a link between visual perceptions and emotions. It reveals the desire to portray hidden beauty and celebrate important occasions. Whether for festivities, birthdays, anniversaries or special commemorations, the Reverso welcomes all manner of references conveyed through monograms, initials, dates, family crests, coats-of-arms, personal memories and magical moments – all engraved on the back of the reversible case. One face is thus reserved for time, and the other for personalization.
A tribute to artistic traditions, engraving emphasizes the importance of the imagination in ensuring
originality. Moreover, it brilliantly transforms the case of the Reverso into a full-fledged stage-setting.
The exhibition will be located in the Souk Atrium, outside the Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique, on the Ground Floor. For more information, visit www.jaeger-lecoultre.com
