Among my favourite Swiss watch layouts of all time would be that the famed Datograph — and also to think the design is over 11 years old today! For 2012 Lange is revisiting the Datrograph with a new and updated model that retains the desirability of the first watch. The new model is going to be known as the Datograph Up/Down (Update: it was originally called the Datograph AUF/AB in German, but they changed the name into English).
The first A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Watch was called as such because along with the time, it featured a big-date index (which Lange called its”out-sized date”) and a 30 minute chronograph. The”Datograph” name summed all that up well. For me the combo of light silver and black on the dial along with the symmetrical layout made it a gorgeous design.

The new Datograph Up/Down advertisements a power reserve indicator, that’s the origin of the new name. “Up/Down” stands for”upward” and”down,” which are the indications on the power reserve indicator in all A. Lange & Sohne watches for whether the reserve is full or empty. The new swiss mens watch has a power reserve of 60 hours thanks for to the new in-house created Caliber L.951.6. This really is is 24 hours longer than the initial version. The new movement chronograph is a flyback using a pillar wheel operator. You can watch the beautiful movement through the display back of the watch. Nobody else makes and decorates a motion really like Lange. I love the dimensions growth. At first this Ref. 405.035 watch will probably be accessible only in a platinum case. I expect 18k gold variations to stick to the year after or soon thereafter. The newer big size will probably look great I presume.
In addition to the addition of a power reserve indicator the dial has been upgraded somewhat from the original. Most noticeably would be the usage of all rhodiumed gold baton hour markers. The first Datograph utilized several Roman numerals ones. The dial of this watch is solid silver with black application.
The new Datograph Up/Down is not meant to be a radical step upward from the Datrograph. The first has been very popular but is no longer made. High need for it prompted the brand to reevaluate the beautiful version, and Lange wanted to offer collectors what they wanted with a little extra. The new features and size are highly desirable and make for another Datograph really much worth searching for. It will be matched to some dark blue-gray hand-stitched crocodile strap.
