While the first Carrera was a well designed three-register chronograph, in recent years TAG Heuer has expanded the line to include not only chronographs, but also time-only models that are imbued with the same crisp design elements as the original.
It could be said that the majority of modern wristwatches have a certain “exacting” design sensibility about them, but in the case of the Carrera this is particularly true. The 39mm stainless steel case is well proportioned, with a simple but modern bevel running around the bezel. The angular lugs are similarly beveled, in the same style as the original Carreras, extending from the case in an architectural way.
On the model with black dial, the hand-applied hour indices feature a mix of polished and brushed finishes. At 3 o’clock, an aperture for the date features a beveled steel surround that complements the shape and size of the indicies. The black date wheel is a nice touch that adds to the harmonious appearance. A finely detailed track for both seconds and minutes surrounds the dial, with numerals at every quarter-hour. 
The Carrera 39mm uses the Calibre 5 movement, which is TAG Heuer‘s house-branded ETA 2824. It measures only 26mm in diameter – you can see the difference between the movement size and the case size through the sapphire back. This is probably our biggest quibble with the 39mm Carrera. The self-winding movement features 38-hours of power reserve and a quick-set function for the date.
Overall, it’s the type of watch that makes sense as a reliable daily-wear watch for most office environments. The TAG Heuer Carrera 39mm is priced at $2,900 on a stainless steel bracelet or alligator strap and comes with either a black or white dial.
