Vacheron Constantin Patrimony line added a new 42mm model with a more modern look. at this year’s SIHH.
As per Vacheron Constantin’s tradition, the three models interpreted in 42 mm case elegantly assert the pure, restrained lines of the iconic Vacheron Constantin collection. Available only in precious metals, this manual winding time only collection is currently one of the best products within its category, and unsurprisingly, one of the most expensive as well. That said, its quality case construction, artisanal finishing, and technically superior movement makes the timepiece a highly desirable one.
Reflecting a minimalist design that combines taut lines with rounded curves in a pleasing aesthetic balance, the new models presented at the SIHH 2016 come in 950 platinum, 18K white gold or 18K 5N pink gold. Slightly convex on the external zone and adorned with a circular “pearl” minute-track, the restrained dial is enlivened by a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The thin manual winding timepiece measures 42mm in diameter and 7.65mm in height.
The watch uses Caliber 4400 AS, a mechanical manual-winding movement developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin.The calibre 4400AS measures only 2.80 mm in thickness. The 21 jewels movement has an approximate 65 hours power reserve and beats at 4 Hz. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, it features all the hand finishes characteristic of Haute Horlogerie. All models bear the Hallmark of Geneva.
Of the 3 metal variants, our favourite is the slate dial platinum model. Primarily because platinum is our preferred material, alluding to its pristine qualities and frequently understated luxury. Furthermore, the dial colour is much rarer and unconventional. That said, the price premium over the other 2 metals may leave some feeling queasy.
All in all, the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony 42mm is a beautifully made timepiece which contains all that is required of a luxury timepiece without the fanfare. As we had said, the case thinness and build quality is superb, the movement great both aesthetically and technically, and the overall look of the watch, utilitarian and beautiful.
